Interview Preparation — User Guide
Kandid.pro provides two complementary interview preparation tools alongside a scheduling tracker. Understanding which tool serves which purpose will help you get the most out of them.
Interview Questions are questions you plan to ask the employer — they demonstrate your research, curiosity, and strategic thinking.
Practice Questions are questions the employer might ask you, complete with AI-suggested responses structured using the STAR method and drawn from your career history.
Both tools feed into the Interviews tab on each job application, so everything you need for interview preparation is in one place.
The Interviews Tab — Layout Overview
The Interviews tab is divided into two columns:
| Column | Content |
|---|---|
| Left | Interview Rounds — scheduling and tracking each interview stage |
| Right | Two sub-tabs: Questions (questions to ask the employer) and Practice (AI practice questions with STAR responses) |
Questions to Ask the Employer
Where to find it: Open a job application → Interviews tab → Questions sub-tab
The Interview Questions feature helps you build a focused set of questions to ask during your interview. Thoughtful questions leave a strong impression on interviewers and help you evaluate whether the role is the right fit for you.
Building your question list
You have three ways to add questions to an interview.
Option 1 — Write a new question
Click Add Question to open the slide-out panel. On the Write New tab, select a category, type your question, optionally add a prepared answer or talking points, and click Add Question. The question is saved to this application immediately.
Categories available:
| Category | What to use it for |
|---|---|
| Behavioral | Questions about how the team or manager operates |
| Technical | Questions about the tools, methods, processes, or specialist knowledge used in the role |
| Situational | Scenario-based questions about how the company handles specific situations |
| Company Culture | Questions about values, team dynamics, and ways of working |
| Role Specific | Questions about the specific responsibilities, expectations, and success metrics for this role |
| General | Broad questions suitable for any interview |
Option 2 — Browse your library
Click Add Question, then select the Browse Library tab. This panel shows two sections:
- Company-Wide Questions — questions you have already saved against this company in the Company Research area (see Part 1b below)
- General Questions — your global library of reusable questions
Use the search box to filter by keyword. Click the + button next to any library question to copy it into this application's question list. The original library question is unchanged — a copy is added to this specific application only.
Option 3 — AI-Generated Questions
Click the gold Generate Questions button. Kandid.pro's AI analyses the job description and generates a set of strategic questions tailored to the role and company. These are added to your question list automatically.
Reviewing and editing questions
Questions are grouped by category. Each card displays the question text, your prepared answer (if any), and any notes. Use the Edit icon to update a question, or the Delete icon to remove it.
Exporting your questions
Once you have built your list, click Export PDF to download a formatted document you can print or reference before the interview.
Company Interview Question Library
Where to find it: Companies → select a company → Research tab → Interview Questions tab
The company library lets you build and maintain a reusable set of questions for a specific organisation, independent of any individual job application. This is particularly useful if you are applying for multiple roles at the same company, or if you want to research the company thoroughly before your applications begin.
Questions are organised into the same six categories. Use the tabs across the top — All | Behavioral | Technical | Situational | Company Culture | Role Specific | General — to browse by type. Each category tab shows only questions of that type and includes a category-specific Add Question button if none have been saved yet.
Each question card displays:
- Colour-coded category badge
- Question text
- Answer or response (if saved)
- Notes (if saved)
- Edit and Delete buttons
Click Add Question to create a new company-level question. Fill in the category, question, optional answer, and optional notes.
Any questions saved here will automatically appear in the Company-Wide Questions section of the Browse Library panel whenever you add questions to a job application linked to this company.
AI Practice Questions with STAR Responses
Where to find it: Open a job application → Interviews tab → Practice Questions sub-tab
The Practice Questions feature generates a personalised set of practice questions you may be asked during the interview, along with suggested responses structured using the STAR method.
What is the STAR method?
STAR stands for:
| Component | Description |
|---|---|
| Situation | The context or background |
| Task | Your specific responsibility or the challenge you faced |
| Action | What you personally did to address it |
| Result | The outcome, including quantified impact where possible |
Structuring interview answers using STAR keeps responses focused and evidence-based.
Generating your practice questions
When you first open the Practice Questions tab, click Generate Practice Questions. Kandid.pro's AI reads the job description and your career history to generate a tailored set of questions with suggested STAR responses. Generation runs in the background — you can navigate elsewhere and return when it completes.
Reviewing your practice questions
Once generated, your questions are listed by number with colour-coded category badges. Click the chevron on any question card to expand it and reveal the full STAR response.
Each STAR component is colour-coded for easy reading:
| Component | Colour |
|---|---|
| Situation | Blue |
| Task | Green |
| Action | Purple |
| Result | Orange |
Category filter: Use the Filter by category dropdown above the question list to focus on a specific type of question — for example, only Technical or only Behavioral questions.
Personalising the STAR responses
The AI generates a starting point based on your career data, but you should review and tailor each response to reflect your own voice and most relevant examples. Click Edit when a question is expanded to modify any of the four STAR fields. Click Save when done, or Cancel to discard changes.
Regenerating questions
Click Regenerate to produce a fresh set of questions, replacing the current set. Use this if the role requirements have changed, if you have updated your career history, or if you want a different angle on your preparation.
Exporting to PDF
Click Export PDF to download all questions and their STAR responses as a formatted document for offline study.
Practice Mode
Accessed via: Practice Questions tab → Practice Mode button
Practice Mode provides a focused, flashcard-style study experience for your practice questions.
How to use Practice Mode
- Click Practice Mode to enter the study view
- A progress bar at the top shows your position through the question set — for example, "Question 3 of 8 — 38%"
- Read the question carefully and think through your answer using the STAR method
- When ready, click Reveal Answer to see the suggested STAR response
- Each STAR component appears in a clearly labelled, colour-coded panel
- Use the Next and Previous buttons to move through your question set — the answer automatically hides when you advance to a new question
- Click Exit Practice at any time to return to the question list view
Tip: Work through Practice Mode several times in the days before your interview. On the first pass, aim to understand the suggested responses. On later passes, try to recall the answer from memory before revealing it.
Interview Rounds
Where to find it: Open a job application → Interviews tab → left column
Use the Interview Rounds section to track each stage of the interview process for a job application.
Click the + button to add a new round. Fill in the details:
| Field | Options |
|---|---|
| Type | Phone Screen, Technical, Coding, System Design, Behavioral, Cultural Fit, Panel, Final, Other |
| Status | Scheduled, Completed, Rescheduled, Cancelled |
| Date, time, duration | Scheduled date and time |
| Location | In-person address or video call link |
| Interviewers | Name, role, email, and LinkedIn for each interviewer |
You can also add pre-interview preparation notes before the round takes place.
Interview round tile actions
Each interview round tile has four action buttons in the top-right corner:
| Button | Icon | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Prep | Sparkle | Generate AI preparation notes for this round |
| Export | Download arrow | Export prep notes as a PDF |
| Edit | Pencil | Edit the round details |
| Delete | Trash | Remove the round |
AI-generated prep notes
Click the Prep button to submit a background job that generates targeted preparation notes for the round.
What the AI analyses:
- The round type (e.g. Skill Assessment, Behavioural, Panel) and scheduled date
- Each linked interviewer's career history — roles, companies, seniority, and education — pulled from their Contact career profile
- The job role, company, and job description
- Your selected career profile type (General, Technical, Management, Executive, Creative, Academic, or Consultant) — this shapes how the AI frames advice and what skills it emphasises
What the AI produces:
- A background summary and likely areas of focus for each interviewer, based on their career background
- Personalised talking points and questions to ask each interviewer
- An overall preparation strategy with key themes and recommended activities
A spinner shows while the job is running. The prep notes section updates automatically when generation completes — no page refresh needed.
Tip: For the richest prep notes, add interviewers to the interview round. Using LinkedIn and the Chrome Extension you can import their career history. The AI uses their career history to tailor advice — an interviewer with an engineering background will probe differently than one from a commercial or people function.
Calendar integration
When you save a scheduled round, Kandid.pro automatically creates two calendar events:
- An event for the interview itself at the scheduled time
- A preparation event the day before, giving you a dedicated block for final review
Recording post-interview notes
After each round, update the status to Completed and fill in the post-interview fields:
- Performance notes
- Questions you were actually asked
- Feedback received
- Pass/fail outcome
This record is valuable for reflection and for preparing for subsequent rounds.
Interview Preparation Hub
Where to find it: Main navigation → Interview Preparation
The Interview Preparation page is a standalone resource centre accessible from the main navigation, independent of any specific job application. It provides two tabs: Interview Advice and Questions Library.
Interview Advice Tab
Interview Preparation → Interview Advice tab
The Interview Advice tab is a reference guide you can return to at any point in your job search. It is organised into five sections.
Before the Interview
Five key preparation steps:
- Research the Company — Study the company's website, recent news, products, culture, and values. Understand their mission and how you can contribute.
- Review the Job Description — Identify key skills and requirements. Prepare specific examples that demonstrate your relevant experience.
- Prepare Your Stories — Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your answers to behavioural questions.
- Know Your Interviewers — If possible, research your interviewers on LinkedIn. Understanding their background helps build rapport.
- Prepare Questions — Have 3–5 thoughtful questions ready about the role, team, company culture, and growth opportunities.
Questions Library Tab
Interview Preparation → Questions Library tab
The Questions Library is your personal, reusable bank of general interview questions — questions you plan to ask employers — that are not tied to any specific company or job application.
How it connects to applications: Questions saved here automatically appear in the Browse Library → General Questions section when you click Add Question on any job application. Write a good question once and copy it into any application with a single click.
Adding questions
Add Custom Question — Click to open a dialog where you fill in:
- Category (same six options as elsewhere)
- Question text (required)
- Your Answer (optional — your prepared talking points)
- Notes (optional — reminders or additional context)
Add Suggested Questions (sparkles icon) — Opens a curated question picker showing questions maintained by the Kandid.pro team, grouped by category. Each question shows the question text and a brief note explaining why it is valuable.
Controls in the picker:
- Checkbox to select individual questions
- Select All / Deselect All toggle
- Selection counter showing how many are selected
- Add N Questions button — bulk-adds all selected questions to your library in one action
Tip: Use Add Suggested Questions to quickly populate your library when getting started, then customise the ones most relevant to your target roles.
Searching and filtering
- Search box — filters questions by question text or prepared answer content as you type
- Category dropdown — narrows the view to a single category
- Stats line — shows the total question count and a filtered count when a filter is active
Question cards
Questions are grouped by category. Each card shows the question text, prepared answer (if saved), and notes (if saved). Use the Edit icon to update any field, or the Delete icon to remove the question.
